Choosing your acrylic

Cast acrylic (not extruded) cuts cleaner and flame-polishes better - 2-3 mm is the sweet spot for pendants: 2 mm feels delicate, 3 mm reads bold and survives keychain duty. The fun is in the finishes: mirror gold and silver acrylic give a convincing jewellery look for pennies, glitter and pearlescent sheets own the party-wear market, and matte pastels photograph beautifully for Etsy.

Mirror acrylic tip: cut face-down with the protective film on to keep the mirror backing clean, and mask the front against flashback.

Cutting and finishing

Any CO₂ laser (Glowforge included) cuts 3 mm acrylic easily; diode machines handle dark and opaque sheets - clear acrylic is transparent to their wavelength, so pick colours. Run your material test grid once, cut one test pendant, then batch. Edges come out of the machine glossy; a quick pass with a flame torch removes any striations, and jump rings go straight into the pre-placed loops - no drilling.

The welded single-piece design matters double in acrylic: thin fonts crack at unwelded joints, and floating dots vanish into the honeycomb bed. Every template here is bridge-connected and verified one-piece, with stroke weights chosen to survive at 30-50 mm.

A 300 × 300 mm sheet (~$3-5) yields 15-25 pendants; each takes under two minutes of laser time.
